Rachel Winter I think (and I may be open to correction) that Oscars father was from Ireland as well. I believe its Co Roscommon

Stephen Fry It really was a disgrace the way they tore down Georgian Dublin (by they I mean the Irish government).

I think Sir William had more jobs than you!
so Oscar's dad was English then? Maybe that's why people get confused.

I walk past here most days. Do you like the statue opposite?

Aah, those pics take me back. Lived in Maynooth forra a year, and ALWAYS in and out of Dub. Love the history. Pity they didn't take more care of it - everything looked so old.

After reading Pappa Wilde's plaque, Oscar looks like a right slacker

That's lovely! I'm surprised it's not a museum - I agree, it's a shame it isn't.

Thanks so much for letting me vicariously wander with you. It's been over 10 years since I was in Dublin last. I'm currently having my morning coffee in beautiful downtown Burbank, but I can just about hear the buskers and taste the Guinness now...

It should rightfully be a museum. The last time we were there, there was only one plaque so things are looking up.

I took a picture of Merrion Square during my trip to Dublin from the very same spot! Cool!

I think Stephen should forefront a campaign to get this place bought back by the irish state and turned into a museum

it's pretty sad that it's not a museum as it should be...
