#AngelBeats ep7: 1st half felt like ~After Story, 2nd half very "slice of lifey". All of it, good. #anime 

Perhaps saying the first half felt like ~After Story is a bit much, but it definitely gave me a Clannad type of feel. It makes sense now why Otonashi was so well educated and also why he is where he is now. It's not the most bitter, but it's still a seemingly cruel end. The second half helped temper the downer of an episode up until that point. This show is surprisingly good with the comedy. They just seem to have a gold mine of idiots to draw any number of gags from. And Kanade just seemed... adorable. If you had put cat ears and paws on her & made her "nyao" or play a keyboard my head would've exploded. Too bad there's two of her now.

That brings me to another point (yes I'm glossing over the fact that there are two of her now, I'm not going to get into the hundreds of theories that are about to pop up about it), Kanade really does feel somewhat like an evolution of Rei Ayaname of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame. And this was before I saw her double pop up. It's almost like this long tradition of doll-like characters has come full circle. A lot of shows after Eva focused on Rei's passive personality, but lately it seems more like these characters are taking on more of a weaponized role along with it. It's too early in the show, but this is definitely an angle I'll be watching for.
