I suppose I should clarify, the reason he cut it so short, and dyed it such a toned down color, was because he's about to resume filming on "Okusama wa 18sai" (at 4am the next day, no less) so he needed a style that was more suitable for a teacher.

He cut it shorter for the first two episodes too, though not this short, and he didn't dye it that time either. I have no clue if there's a plot based reason for the more drastic change, or if he just felt like doing it like this this time around.
